HOW TO PROPERLY MEASURE YOUR DOG FOR DOG CLOTHES

HOW TO PROPERLY MEASURE YOUR DOG FOR DOG CLOTHES
Having trouble figuring out where to measure your dog using our size chart?

We take you step by step to get the best measurements from your pup and in turn - the best fitting hoodie!

If your dog does not have the patience to stand still for every single measurement to find their size; no worries. There are three most important measurements for the best general fit. The chest, neck and sleeve length.
That said, we do require all measurements for custom sizes: which we will be explaining how to measure everything!

NOW, LET’S GET MEASURING.

How to measure the CHEST: When you look at your dog, you can see that their chest is larger right behind his front legs, than it is toward their hind legs. This larger area directly behind the front legs is exactly where you want to measure for the chest circumference. If your dog is particularly fluffy, measure loosely around their fur - their floof will take up space!
Matching your chest measurement to the chart - choose the hoodie size that is 2-3”/5-8CM larger than your dog’s measurement for the best fit. Unsure? Size up.
How to measure the NECK: Wherever your dog’s collar naturally sits is where you want to measure around, not too tightly though. Pretend the measuring tape is their collar and leave a little wiggle room. Again, if you have a particularly floofy pup, measure loosely to account for their fur taking up room in the garment.
Matching your neck measurement to the chart - choose the hoodie size that is 1-2”/2-5CM larger than your dog’s measurement for the best fit. Unsure? Size up.
How to measure the SLEEVE LENGTH: Our Tees come with a standard short sleeve length across all sizes so you don’t need to measure your pups leg for these. As for hoodies, some dogs have shorter legs than others and that’s totally expected! At BOIS we offer a “Regular” sleeve length, and a “Short“ sleeve length. “Short” lengths are 3”/8CM shorter than the “Regular”. What you need to do to measure the sleeve properly is measure from your dog’s elbow to their wrist. (about 2” above their paw). You can use this measurement to decide whether your dog needs a “Regular” sleeve or “Short” sleeve.
Matching your sleeve measurement to the chart - choose the hoodie size that is the closest to your dog’s measurement for the best fit.
How to measure the WRIST: All BOIS hoodies and crewnecks have ribbed cuffs that are stretchy and help the sleeve hold it’s shape! The measurements on our chart are the “resting” circumference of the cuffs. They stretch approximately an extra 1.5”/4CM. Now, for measuring the wrist, find your dog’s wrist about 2” above their paw. If you are ordering a custom sweater, we will use the provided wrist measurement as the “resting” circumference of the cuffs.
Matching your wrist measurement to the chart - choose the hoodie size that is the closest to or larger than your dog’s measurement for the best fit.
How to measure the BACK LENGTH: Remember where you measured for the neck measurement? (Where your dog’s collar naturally sits). Use this as your starting point and measure along your dog’s back to where it lines up above where their hind legs/thighs start. This is approximately where the standard length ends on most breeds. If you’d like a custom sweater with a longer length to cover their booty, just select custom size and measure from the neck to wherever you’d like the sweater to end!
Matching your back length measurement to the chart - choose the hoodie size that is the closest or longer to your dog’s measurement for the best fit.
